Lanzhou University of Technology, located in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, is a university jointly established by the Gansu Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and a high-level university in Gansu Province. The Basic Capacity Building Project of Colleges and Universities in the Central and Western Regions, the National College Student Innovation Experiment Program, and the Outstanding Engineer Program of the Ministry of Education have been selected as colleges and universities, and they are characteristic schools of national defense education.
The predecessor of the school was the Gansu Provincial Technical School, which was founded in 1919; In 1958, on the basis of the establishment of Lanzhou Institute of Technology, Gansu Jiaotong University was merged and named Gansu University of Technology; In 1965, the school was assigned to the First Ministry of Machinery Industry, and at the same time, the Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute and Beijing Institute of Mechanical Engineering were all moved into the hydraulic machinery, chemical machinery, petroleum mining machinery and welding technology and equipment majors, and a group of teachers from Hunan University and Hefei University of Technology were transferred to work in the school; In 1998, it was transformed into a college that was "jointly built by the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay"; In 2003, it was officially renamed Lanzhou University of Technology. The school has two campuses, Langongping Campus and Pengjiaping Campus, covering an area of 2,430 acres, with a building area of 1,275,200 square meters, a library collection of 2.31 million books, 1.24 million electronic books, a laboratory area of more than 70,000 square meters, and an asset value of about 658 million yuan in teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment. The university is one of the first batch of universities authorized for bachelor's and master's degrees in China, the first university in Gansu Province with the right to confer doctoral degrees in engineering, and the first university to set up a postdoctoral research station in engineering. At present, there are 9 disciplines, covering 3 disciplines of engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, education, medicine, art, engineering, materials science and chemistry, which are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI in the world. The discipline of materials science and engineering was selected as a national "first-class discipline" breakthrough project of provincial universities. There are 20 provincial key disciplines and 4 national defense characteristic disciplines. There are 6 first-level discipline doctoral programs and 25 first-level discipline master's programs. 64 undergraduate enrollment majors, 34 majors have been selected as first-class undergraduate majors in the "Double Ten Thousand Plan", 19 majors have passed the engineering education certification, 20 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 14 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. 10 courses have been selected as national first-class undergraduate courses. The university continues to expand the space for cooperation and exchange, and has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with more than 40 universities such as the University of Akron in United States, the University of California (Santa Barbara) in United States, the University of Strathclyde in United Kingdom, the Russia University of Science and Technology in South Russia, Macau University of Science and Technology, Taiwan Zhongyuan University, Kunshan University of Science and Technology, Jingyi University, etc., and is the counterpart support university of Southeast University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, and Dalian University of Technology, and more than 500 teachers have gone abroad (abroad) for study and exchange in recent years.
