UNLP was named the second best university in Argentina in the 2016 QS World University Ranking and is one of the most important universities in the country. The university is divided into five campuses: West Forest, East Forest, North Forest, Central Forest and Central City. It is one of the top 200 universities in Agriculture and Forestry Research worldwide according to the 2017 QS World University ranking of disciplines and is also known for having multiple music and art groups, including a choir and string quartet.
